Hey there! Hope you're doing well.
I got to have coffee with my brother the other day. Kurtis runs a super unique e-commerce brand called Filthy Shades. He's been averaging about $20K/mo in revenue... |

Filthy shades is a sunglasses brand that is creating shades for the most filthy humans alive.

Kurt is a couple years younger than me. We've worked on several projects together in the past that "failed". He even worked with me on Upscribe for a while. But nothing has taken off for him like Filthy Shades. It's been growing steadily for months. And things are really picking up lately.
What's different about this project? Kurt attributes this success it to one thing. Mindset.
He's been working really hard for the last year or so at changing the way he thinks about the goals he sets. Here's what he's been doing:
Every week he writes down his goals for the month, year, and next 5 years. But he writes them down as if they've already happened.
I know, this sounded a little woo woo to me too 😅
But it's working. Really working.
Here's why - or at least why I think - it's working. It's not simply because he wrote this stuff down in a certain way. It's because, writing it down in the past tense this way has changed how he thinks about these goals. He went from "I'd love to hit $20K this month. Here's to hoping!" to "I hit 20K. Awesome! How did I do it?".
It's caused him to actually think through actionable to-dos for achieving his goals. He's saying "we hit 10K last month. If we're going to hit 20K this month, what do we need to do to get there?". Rather than doing what I do (writing down my goals in a Notion doc and forgetting about them until the end of the year) he's attacking his goals as if he can't lose. And for some reason, he's stopped losing.
To get more practical. Here's one of the tactics he's been using. Kurt has figured out that if he DM's 1000 potential customers (people who follow competitors or have liked his content) on Instagram, he gets X amount of sales. So he DM's 5000 potential customers. Every day.
I'm still processing how this will apply to my life and my businesses. But I'm certainly taking it to heart.
It certainly seems to be working for him! |

Stuff that inspired me this week... |

Van makes some really unique videos. This one was about a book he read that basically predicted COVID-19. I've always felt that we can learn a lot about the future by looking at the past. This was super interesting.

Fathom Analytics just finished a massive redesign. And I love it. Super clean and to the point. So good!

Nathan Barry (founder of ConvertKit) started a new paid newsletter specifically for creators making $200K/year and up. I'm not making that much. But I'm a fan of his and had to subscribe. Really liking it so far!

Well, that's it for this week! Thanks for reading, friend!
Stay golden.
